My uncle, Wally Gunther, was yardmaster for the NY Central RR there. He would take me down into the bowels of this building where all the trains were switched and cars matched up for their return trip out of NYC. Great memories.
Oh wow – that must be some awesome memories! And it sounds great, I’ve always loved the atmopshere at huge train stations – all the bustle, the vibes, the people leaving and returning from adventures, it’s always so alive. And what a cool uncle!
And he ran away from home before he was 14. He was an amazing man. Boxer, merchant marine etc.
Good man. Must’ve been packed with stories. Sounds inspiring, too.
